What We Believe

We are a Lutheran congregation who accepts and teaches the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther who inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teachings of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three short phrases:

Scripture alone: The Bible is God’s true and perfect Word, in which He reveals His law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.

Grace alone: God loves the people of the world even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.

Faith alone: By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives forgiveness through Him.

We believe that God has made us and all His creation: that He has given us our body and soul, all that we are, and have.

We believe that Jesus Christ, true God from all eternity and true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is our Lord; by His innocent suffering and death, He has redeemed us, lost and condemned people; purchased and won us from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil; so that we may belong to Him, live under Him in His kingdom, and serve Him forever.

We believe that we cannot, by our own reason or strength, believe in Jesus or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called us by the Gospel, just as he gathers the whole Christian Church on earth; that He daily and richly forgives all our sins; and will, at the Last Day, raise us up and all the dead, and give to us and all believers in Christ eternal life.
